November 11 is a special date in Poland—we celebrate National Independence Day.
As every year, we want to honor this day in a unique and pleasant way, together with those who have chosen to live in our country and our city. This time, we’ll talk about...trees.
Local landscapes and native plant species form the character and uniqueness of a country. Familiarity with native nature, taking care of our environment, and engaging in preserving the natural world are, in our view, important aspects of modern patriotism. A patriotism of small deeds, our every day, future, and working toward a shared goal. This is the kind of patriotism we want to strengthen and celebrate on this day.
Traditionally, we want to prepare a small treat together, and aside from gathering around the table, we invite you to participate in several activities. We’ve planned a lecture on trees, workshops on old photography techniques, and activities for children. There will also be artistic performances and a music jam session. And for those who can plant a
tree, we’ll provide seedlings of native tree species. We look forward to seeing you!
12:30 - We begin!
13:00 - Lecture on Dendrology
Together with Kasia Szczypior, we’ll talk about trees, their role in the city, and explore questions like whether trees can feel, if they’re similar to us, and why they’re so essential to us. Participants will receive tree seedlings to plant.
13:45 At the Table
We would like to invite you to take part in the event, but also to join in preparing a treat for everyone, bring something delicious with you
14:15 Talbotype
In this workshop, we’ll create botanical prints using a 19th-century salt paper technique once used to make herbarium sheets. Participants will create compositions and prints with leaves of trees and other plants. The workshop will be led by Roman Kravczenko.
