alarm signal - what to do

Over the past three weeks, the Government Security Centre (RCB) has issued alerts regarding the threat of an air attack in Lublin and the Lublin region on more than a dozen occasions. Alarm sirens have also been sounded—most recently the day before yesterday. These alerts are directly linked to Russian attacks on Ukraine. We have also faced a direct threat involving a violation of airspace and two attacks in the immediate vicinity of the Dorohusk border crossing, located 80 km from Lublin.

Below is a brief reminder of what to do.

Note: there are three types of notifications:

1. "UWAGA! Rosyjski atak powietrzny na terenie Ukrainy. sytuacja jest monitorowana. W przestrzeni RP (Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej) operuje polskie lotnictwo. Oczekuj dalszych komunikatów" - in English: ATTENTION! Russian air attack on Ukrainian territory. The situation is being monitored. Polish aircraft are operating within the airspace of the Republic of Poland. Expect further updates.
- this is a message about staying alert. What to do: monitor announcements.

2.  "Uwaga! Trwa zmasowany rosyjski atak powietrzny na Ukrainę. Oczekuj dalszych komunikatów. Reaguj na sygnały alarmowe" - in English: "Attention! A massive Russian air attack on Ukraine is underway. Expect further announcements. Respond to alarm signals".
- This is a notification to be on alert. What to do: monitor announcements and check the location of the nearest safe place.

3. "UWAGA! UWAGA! UWAGA! Zagrożenie atakiem z powietrza. Znajdź bezpieczne miejsce. Stosuj się do poleceń służb. Oczekuj dlaszych komunikatów" - in English: "ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ATTENTION! Threat of an air attack. Find a safe place. Follow the instructions of the emergency services. Await further announcements."
- This is a "take action now" message. What you should do:

  • Do not ignore the alarm.
  • Find a safe place.
If you cannot take shelter in a designated area, stay indoors—away from windows, near load-bearing walls, and in central rooms.
Whenever possible, apply the "second wall" rule: take shelter in a room deep within the building, separated from the exterior by at least two walls.
If you are outdoors, look for locations that offer at least minimal protection (the lowest levels of buildings, including basements, underground garages, tunnels, and underpasses). Even a simple depression in the ground offers better protection than remaining in an open area.
Check the nearest shelter location at: gdziesieukryc.pl
  • Monitor alerts.
We recommend prioritizing government alerts: text messages  sent via the Government Security Centre (RCB), the Regional Warning System (RSO—an app available for mobile phones), and public radio (Polish Radio Program 1: 90.8 FM in Lublin).

Support at Baobab
Safety protocols have been implemented at the Baobab Community Center, covering both the provision of support within the building during a crisis and evacuation procedures.
We kindly ask everyone using the Baobab center to follow these instructions.

We also wish to inform you that preparations are underway to operate in crisis mode, enabling us to provide basic support to those in need while upholding Core Humanitarian Standards.

Beware of fake news
During a crisis, fake news fuels panic, hinders rescue operations, and poses a danger just as serious as a real physical threat.
Therefore, always: Check the source of information. Use verified, reliable sources. Do not spread unverified information.
How to prepare — safety guide
